The Grameen Foundation (www.grameenfoundation.org) helps poor people in the developing world with micro loans, a highly successful business model pioneered by founding member Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus. The activities of the Grameen Foundation are further invigorated by a keen sense of the power of technology to transform and improve lives. The Hope for Poor Children Foundation participates with a small group of supporters in a loan guarantee program to provide mezzanine capital to micro-finance institutions around the world, including India, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Latin America. This mezzanine capital has been levered to allow the Hope for Poor Children Foundation’s original $2 million Letter of Credit to provide $8-10 million of $50-200 loans to hard-working and resourceful borrowers, most of whom are poor women. The Hope for Poor Children Foundation has also supported Grameen’s micro-lending training program for Indian bankers.
